2002 Autumn Regatta at Bewl Valley Sailing Club

by Richard Kingsnorth 29 Aug 2002 22:25 BST

Bewl Valley Sailing Club's annual Autumn Regatta (held on August bank holiday) lived up to its name as the temperature dropped like a stone. On the positive side, with the drop in temperature came a steady force three to four wind which provided nearly forty entrants with close competitive racing.

A series of five races was run for the handicap fleet in which Phil Barnard's Flying 15 launched itself into clean wind and overall victory. Behind Phil, the 18 Lasers had very close racing. John Bradley (standard) and Charlie Royston (radial) came second and third with equal points and were closely followed by Adam Sims (4.7).

The One Ton Cup (crew over 100 years) was won by Geoff Hilton and Jim Vince who had come 7th overall in their Flying 15 and the Half Ton Cup (single hander over 50) was grudgingly accepted by Charlie Royston.
