Over 60 boats competed on beautiful evenings for the Royal Lymington YC’s Summer Keelboat Regatta, the event which was held in the last week in June also incorporates Lymington XOD week and was supported by Hood sails with some great prizes.

Consistency was the name of the game in Class 1 with Mark Broadway’s Fidelatis winning despite two race wins from Mike Begg’s Bomerang. Class 2 was won by Malcom McKeon’s Leonra who also won two races, the Club Supported SB3 “Royal Lymington Youth also won a race but was unable to finish in the last race due to the dropping breeze.

The Folkboat class saw some very close racing with a different winner on each day, however it was Matthew Jones/Stuart Watson’s crackerjack who managed to improve each day who triumphed with a 3,2,1 score line.

The XODs also had great racing with more variables having also raced on Monday and Tuesday. The Paton family’s XL was looking good at the start of the week with two 2nd places and William Norris’ Beatrix looked good in the middle with a 1st and a 2nd , however Stuart Jardine’s Lone Star showed that to win you need a good beginning middle and end to win convincingly from Bill Dunsdon and Robert Young’s Jewel and Steve Whiteman’s Julia.

At the prize-giving the Race Team co-ordinated by Sandra Allpress and the support of Hood Sails were warmly thanked by the competitors who then settled down to watch the World Cup Highlights…
