Christchurch Bay Regatta - Preview

The Royal Lymington Yacht Club is pleased to confirm details of a regatta to be held on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July 2006.

Racing on Saturday 8th July will be part of the 2006 Solent Series. Racing on Sunday 9th July will be in the same classes as for the Solent Series although results on the Sunday will not count for the Solent Series Points Championship.

Classes

IRC classes will be as for the Solent Series.

Class 1 1.180 - 1.350
Class 2 1.115 – 1.179
Class 3 1.055 – 1.114
Class 4 0.990 – 1.054
Class 5 0.925 – 0.989
Class 6 0.840 – 0.924

Entries of more than 10 one design yachts may be scored separately in addition to Solent Series results. Consideration will be given for separate starts for one design yachts with Asymetric spinnakers with a minimum of 10 entries.

Intended Race Schedule and Race Area

It is intended that there will be a maximum of six races with the first race starting at 1030 on 8th July 2006. The first start will be from a Committee boat in the vicinity of the entrance to the Lymington River.

Subject to satisfactory weather conditions, the format will be:

Saturday 8th July
Race 1 Race to Christchurch Bay with a course which may include windward / leeward legs
Race 2 Windward /leeward
Race 3 Windward /leeward with the possibility of a finish close to the entrance of Lymington River
Sunday 9th July
Race 4 Race to Christchurch Bay with a course which may include windward / leeward legs
Race 5 Windward /leeward
Race 6 Windward /leeward with the possibility of a finish close to the entrance of Lymington River

It is intended that visiting yachts from the Central or Eastern Solent will be able to carry the flood tide home after the prize-giving on Sunday 9th July.

Social Arrangements

Sailor friendly catering arrangements.

  • Skipper and Navigators drinks and meet the race team – from 1830 Friday 7th July
  • Club dining room open on Friday 7July, and Saturday 8 July – meals served from 1930 – 2100.
  • “Bacon Butty Breakfasts” at the Club Saturday 8 July and Sunday 9 July.
  • Caribbean band after racing 8th July
  • Riverside drinks and snacks will be arranged on coming ashore after racing Saturday 8 July and until 1800 Sunday 9 July.
  • The Clubhouse and its showering and changing facilities will be open from 0645 until 2300 daily during the event.

Prizes

There will be prizes for the first three yachts in all classes. A “neither here nor there” case of beer will be given to the crew half way up the results table in each class on Saturday 8th July. The skipper and at least half of the crew must be present at the Saturday prize giving to be eligible for a “neither here nor there” prize.

Royal Lymington Spring Series

Potter Ship Race
Royal Lymington annual race The Royal Lymingtons Potter Ship Race, the Clubs annual founders race, was held on Saturday 2 October. This race is open to any keelboat over 18 feet in length, owned and helmed by a member. The Forecast was not good. Posted on 5 Oct 2004
