36 dinghies, from all classes, came to Loch Venachar to compete for the title of Scotland’s top dinghy racer. Boats from Optimists to 14s competed on handicap racing on a number of course shapes, on October 22/23, in an event sponsored by Musto.

Saturday brought very light winds, and Solo class reps were the first to hit the front, with James Allan and Ali Gordon taking the first two places in the first race. Crawford Reid and Izzy Martin won the second race in their Albacore to be overnight leaders.

The wind came up towards a Force 3 on Sunday, and faster boats started to show their paces. Rich Stenhouse, in a Musto Skiff took a first and third in the first two races of the day to set up a showdown with Reid and Martin in the final race. Stenhouse then continued his strong form, winning the last race to outpace Reid and Martin.

Rich Stenhouse’s win gave him the MUSTO RYA Scotland Champion of Champions title for 2005. The remainder of the top five consisted of slow classes, led by Reid and Martin, as leading Scottish boat in their Albacore, while Mark Greenhalgh and Alan Yendell took third in their GP14, ahead of Optimist sailors James Logan and Nathan Forrester, who took the best results for their class for many years. All prize winners received generous prizes courtesy of event sponsor Musto.

Overall Results:

1st Rich Stenhouse, Musto Skiff, Rutland, 10 pts
2nd Crawford Reid and Izzy Martin, Albacore, Strathclyde Loch, 15 pts
3rd Mark Greenhalgh and Alan Yendell, GP14, Annandale, 24 pts
4th James Logan, Optimist, Clyde CC, 26 pts
5th Nathan Forrester, Optimist, Clyde CC, 29 pts
