Towergate Mardon video explains yacht insurance

by Francesca Breeze 7 Oct 2011 16:06 BST

With the 2012 Olympics creating a surge of interest in sailing and the 2010 National Watersport Survey* reporting sailing enthusiast figures increased by 6.8%, boat insurance provider Towergate Mardon has produced a video explaining yacht insurance for new craft owners.

The video, which can be viewed on www.towergateinsurance.co.uk (click on boat and boat tips) and below, is accompanied by an interview transcript and covers everything you need to know about getting the right insurance protection for you and your craft, plus how to reduce premium costs.

The Survey suggests up to 2.9milion UK adults participate in boating activities and estimates around 1.1million craft are owned by UK households. This, says Mardon’s Sales Director and yachtsman, John Tuckwell, is likely to increase as a result of the Olympics – encouraging novices to take to the water.

He comments: “Taking ownership of a new craft is exciting, yet daunting. As well as familiarising yourself with the craft and its workings, there’s training and learning maritime protocols. Insurance can understandably fall down the priority list. This short video answers all the questions you may have up-front, providing information prior to purchase and making the whole process that much easier.”

Yacht Insurance Explained is part of Towergate’s series of videos and guides covering boat maintenance, equipment, training and choosing specific craft, such as a RIB. For further information, visit the website or call 0800 515629.
