Insurance4dinghies Director awarded Kim Stephens trophy

by Emma Waldron, Towergate Mardon 7 Sep 2010 09:10 BST

Towergate Mardon’s Sales Director, John Tuckwell has been awarded this year's ‘Kim Stephens’ trophy at the Dart 18 World Championships, in recognition of his support to the class over the last 22 years.

John Tuckwell, who launched the insurance4dinghies product in 2009 stated how proud he was to have received this award, claiming “...the Dart fleet has always been a breeding ground for great quality sailors.”

This award is the culmination of a busy season for John, who has crewed in both the Flying Fifteen qualifying events and National championships, where Towergate Mardon were key sponsors. He was also heavily involved with Bass Week, another event that Towergate Mardon supported.

He claims “It’s all too easy to become desk bound and not be aware of the grass root support for the various Dinghy classes. There was an excellent turnout for Bass week in the range of different classes and the club has created a great atmosphere”. On Flying Fifteens he states “the quality of the sailing was fantastic”.

The type of involvement that John has at grass root level has been reflected in the success of the insurance4dinghies product, which continues to go from strength to strength and remains competitive against the other established providers in the dinghy insurance market.

As the 2010 season draws to a close, Towergate Mardon are now looking towards 2011 and the key dinghy events in the calendar, to understand where there may be opportunities to promote their product and offer support to the various classes.
