Cadet Second Indicator at Royal Torbay Yacht Club - Overall

by David Elliott 7 May 2010 09:40 BST 1-2 May 2010

With only one race possible on the Saturday, four races were planned for the second day. The Gold and Silver fleets again raced together, with the Bronze fleet starting five minutes later.

Oliver & William Palierakis (Fishers Green) sailing 9005 took the first race of the day from Caroline Croft & Jacob Payne (Frensham Pond) sailing 7274. Third place was taken by Louise Latham & Aaron Chadwick (Fishers Green) in 9635. Max & Francesca Ingall (Fishers Green) in 8855 were fourth, Inland Champions Katie Barr & Scarlett Anderson (Corinthian Otters) in 8435, fifth and Sophie Shepherd & Hollie Marston (West Kirby) in 9669, sixth.

Mary Henderson & Annie Sibthorp (Salcombe/Itchenor) in 7630 led at the windward in the second race from Henry Mills & Robert Keen (Waldringfield) in 8845. Max & Francesca Ingall held third place with Oliver & William Palierakis in fourth, James Dodd & Jessica D’Arcy (Royal Lymington/Frensham Pond) in 9673 fifth and William Reid & Ole Alcock (Parkstone) in 9576 sixth. Mary & Annie and Henry & Robert both capsized at the gybe mark and by the end of the triangle, Max & Francesca led from Oliver & William. Max & Francesca led by over a minute at the second windward, taking the gun from Oliver & William, with Abigail Croft & Alex Page (Frensham Pond) in 8363 third.

Ahead of the third race, a decision was taken to bring in the Bronze Fleet as the winds began to strengthen and the temperature drop. Mary Henderson & Annie Sibthorp once again led at the windward, this time from Sophie Shepherd & Hollie Marston. Max & Francesca were third with Henry Mills & Robert Keen fourth, Louise Latham & Aaron Chadwick fifth and Oliver & William sixth. As the race developed, Oliver & William once again showed how well they were reading the conditions to take the lead and their second victory of the day. Louise & Aaron took second place, with Max & Francesca third.

By the start of the last race of the day, two metre waves were rolling across the course. Oliver & William again led the fleet at the windward from James Dodd & Jessica D’Arcy, Mary Henderson & Annie Sibthorp, Michael Horne & Ben Crane (Frensham Pond) in 9013, Max & Francesca and Caroline Croft & Jacob Payne. By the end of the triangle, Louise & Aaron had taken the lead and with the Race officer shortening the course, scored their first bullet of the day. Oliver & William took second, for their fourth podium finish, with Mary and Annie third.

With a series of five races completed, a discard kicked-in. Oliver & William Palierakis won the Second Indicator with 6 points, four ahead of Louise Latham & Aaron Chadwick. Third place was taken by Max & Francesca Ingall to make it a clean sweep for Fishers Green crews.
