GBR team at the Cadet World Championship 2025 at Lake Lipno - Day 4

As the bright orange sun was starting to set behind the hills surrounding Lake Lipno the fleet of over 100 Cadet boats made their way back towards the beach, some being towed by their support team's RIBs but most with their rainbow of spinnakers flying resolutely against the dimming sun.
The young sailors always amaze you, though particularly on days like today when originally hopeful of a chance for rest and perhaps some fun in the resort towns around the lake they find themselves playing catch up for two races lost the previous day.
Following the usual briefings and prize-giving at around noon the day started with the AP flag signalling postponement which came as no surprise given the mirror like conditions on the water. After a couple of hours the Delta flag was raised signalling the usual frenzy to get tallied and onto the water.
The Cadets had sailed all their previous races in sailing area Alpha, this time they were to race in sailing area Bravo situated further south on the lake.
3 knots wind never really got strong and consistent enough for racing to start and the fleet proceeded even further south to sailing area Charlie, where groups of parents could watch. They were so close they could even talk to the sailors from the shore. But alas the wind still did not pick up and the fleet moved back to Bravo where, with wind speeds up to 5 knots at around 5:30, racing began!
The race officer successfully delivered the two races planned, with sailors returning to shore at around 8pm.
As expected this is proving to be a high scoring event as even the leaders found conditions to be challenging and shifty. The GBR team main fleet leaders Alex Enkel and Jude Baldock had a tough day finishing 43rd and 27th, though still retaining their lead overall. Jemima McMorris and Islay Bromhead were the most consistent British boat finishing 21st and 29th, sitting 18th overall. There were also some much improved performances from GBR boats with Dylan McArdle and Harriet Walker finishing 38th and a fantastic 12th, and Tom Krailing and Ella Edwards with a 31st and 23rd.
Team GBR's best performance of the day came in the promo fleet when Maxwell Stanislaus and Enzo Sanadi found the breeze on the right side of the first beat to propel them into a big lead at the first windward mark, and consolidated their position with textbook tactics to take the win. After day 4 Mia Stanislaus and Sophie Baer retain the overall lead with a seventh and win on the final race of the day, whilst Mimi Windibank and George Blackwell remain second overall with an eighth and second.
