Avengers Assemble!

As the 2025 Cadet National Championships conclude on the English Riviera, we start to think ahead to the Cadet Worlds on Lake Lipno in Czechia.

With such a tight turn-around and very long drive between Brixham, Devon and Cerná v Pošumaví some of the British Team elected to miss the Nationals and get a few days of practice in at the venue.

The British Team has been very fortunate for the support of Hawke Marine Optics who have funded the team clothing and transport of RIB's to the event. Hawke produce high quality binoculars which every sailing parent will appreciate. In a time where getting sponsorship from business is challenging, the British Cadet Team is very grateful. We urge you all to follow Hawke on their socials!

What can we say about the venue? Well, it certainly feels a bit left-field for a World Championship venue. So far, we have had all seasons in one day, every day. It's certainly a challenging venue for the race team. Talking to EU based sailing friends pre-event generally the view has been along the lines of, "Lipno in the summer? Really?! Well, the beer is good and cheap". Not so useful in a junior class, but at least the parents will have a great time at the Windy Point beach bar!

Lake Lipno, provides notoriously changeable conditions in the summer months. Much like Frensham Pond on steroids. Predominantly light winds from every direction. Luckily for the British we have some of the top South Cerney and Frensham talent in attendance.

So, who are our crack team of British Avengers?

Alex "Thor" Enkel & Jude "Loki" Baldock - GBR 10012 "Joint Effort"

With the stylish hair in this boat there was only one pair of Avengers to take on the powerful Asgardians roles! As we write this report the newly crowned British National Champions will be the British team to beat. Proving exceptionally quick in all conditions they are a well-practiced team capable of winning when the odds are stacked against them.

Monty "Ironman" Hampton & Henry "Groot" Yates - GBR 10127 "Morwenna"

A new team formed for this year, in Ironman's final year. They have continuously sailed at the front of the British Cadet fleet and more importantly know how to win races. Hailing from South Cerney they will relish the Lipno conditions.

Daniel "Captain America Britain" & Sophie "Black Widow" Ringland - GBR 10055 "Vortex"

If we have any breezy races we expect Captain Britain and the Black Widow to be at the sharp end of the fleet. Jointly, one of the most experienced British Cadet teams although their first year sailing together as sibling pairing.

George "Dr Strange" Cox-Olliff & Evie "The Wasp" Winchester - GBR 10128 "Hypersonic"

This team sail a Cadet very fast in a straight line. If Dr Strange can open the right shift portals they will be right up there. Having the smallest, and most fearless, crew in the team will also help in the Lipno conditions. With probably the most pimped boat in the entire fleet we can expect some great races.

Tom "Starlord" Krailing & Ella "Mantis" Edwards - GBR 10129 "Matador"

Another quick pairing that can have some amazing race results. But Matis will have to use all her mind control to make sure Starlord points the boat the right direction. One thing is for sure. The banter in this boat will be the best.

Will "Spiderman" Hancock & Alvy "Ant-man" Jones - GBR 10094 "Thunderstruck"

Undoubtedly the British Teams biggest improvers this year. Spiderman & Ant-man, thrown together at the last minute have proven a revelation. Demonstrating why finding the right sailing partner is so important.

Noah "Hawkeye" Sauven & Polly "Nebula" Kornicka - GBR 10131 "Albatross"

Another team paired together this year. Hawkeye has been getting closer to the bullseye every event he's attended. They seem to have a bit of luck on their side after the boat's very near miss in a road accident last week. Let's hope they maintain that luck at Lipno.

Kali "Pepper Potts" Karaskas & Alex "Drax the Destroyer" Nailer - GBR 9078 "Kiwi"

A new team pairing for the Worlds. Time in the boat has been at a premium but there is no doubt that they both know how to sail. With no pressure they could have a great event.

Dylan "Hulk" McArdle & Harriet "Rocket Racoon" Walker - GBR 10003 "Enigma"

If Hulk can tear himself away from Clash Royale then the calmer Bruce Banner will stand a better chance in the racing. Certainly, the Hulk would sink a Cadet. The Hulk and Rocket as a team know how to win races at big events so perhaps a Hulk Smash is coming.

Jemima "Captain Marvel" McMorris & Islay "Valkyrie" Bromhead - GBR 8352 "Master Mariner"

Captain Marvel & Valkyrie arrive in Lipno from an exceptionally consistent set of results at the British Nationals. Consistency is going to be a huge factor here so if they can bring their Brixham form to Lipno they will have a great week.

All coached by former top British Cadet sailor Alex "Nick Fury" Corby and Fireball legend, Vince "Happy Hogan" Horey.

In the Promotional fleet running alongside the Worlds fleet, we also have six teams in attendance including last year's Promotional fleet runner up, Mia Stanislaus sailing this year with Sophie Baer. With several of our very talented promotional fleet just missing the cut for World Team selection we are really looking forward to them having a great event.

So where are they all going to finish at this World Championships? Genuinely. Who knows? What we do know is that there will be a new World Champion. Our team are all going out to sail the best they ever have, whilst also ensuring that they all have fun with their mates from around the world. After all, that is what the Cadet Class is all about.

The Cadet class dinghy's rivals
Some history and statistics, covering the 1950s to the present day When Jack Holt designed the Yachting World Cadet in 1947, it was the only double-handed dinghy for kids to sail that couldn't fit adults on board, and didn't permit adults to race. The class occupied this niche until the RS Feva appeared in 2002. Posted on 1 Sep
