GBR team at the Cadet World Championship 2025 at Lake Lipno - Day 1

The British Team have come into this event with realistic but hopeful expectations. The abandonment of yesterday's practice race meant several of the team had no prior experience sailing at the venue before racing proper. However, that did not seem to have held them back.
The day started with overcast sky and significantly colder than previous days. After the morning briefing the competitors were released on time in a good breeze of between 8-12 knots. Best quote for the day came from the self-proclaimed Arch Bishop of Banterbury when hearing that some of his mates were complaining about putting on cold and wet sailing boots: "if you wake up every morning and have dry boots I know what kind of man you will be."
Three races were held in what feels like a very confined area. The British boats have overall done exceptionally well with a number of teams showing great results in the top ten. Newly crowned British National Champions, Alex Enkel & Jude Baldock had a stellar day to take a sixth and two wins. They deservedly lead the event overnight.
Other notable British results at the front of the Worlds fleet are Monty Hampton & Henry Yates who placed fifth and George Cox-Olliff & Evie Winchester with an eighth in race 1. Jemima McMorris & Islay Bromhead placed an excellent eighth in race 1.
Similarly in the Promo fleet the British have started very well. Conditions have especially suited the Frensham Pond sailors. Mimi Windibank & George Blackwell started well in race 1 to take a third place. This was followed up by another third and a fifth. Mia Stanislaus & Sophie Baer followed behind in race 1 only to pick up a penalty for not having their bucket tied in. They made up for this disappointment by winning the second and third races.
Other noticeable performances came from Ava Stoddart & Jemima Cox-Olliff with an improving sixth and second and Emily Krailing & Rosie Hancock are rounding out the top ten currently counting a sixth and ninth place.
What is particularly noticeable is that despite Alex & Jude's excellent start to the event this looks to be a high scoring series. With the high number of On-The-Water penalties applied on the first day everyone will need to be on their absolute best behaviour. Considering the Cadet Class is a junior class we hope that the penalties don't have a major impact on the final results.
