The twentieth edition of Imperia Winter Regatta ended today with the last 470 and Laser races. The event is organised by the Yacht Club Imperia.
About a hundred boats, male and female crews, in the morning left the Harbour on schedule bound for the race area in order to sail the last races.
The day was sunny with an Easterly wind blowing over the sea in front of Oneglia up to 10/12 knots until the early afternoon when it dropped off preventing the race committe from starting the third race of the day.
In the 470 class male division, Italian team Giulio Desiderato/Enrico Fonda won the overall results after 8 races in front of the two German crews Wagner/Scheufler (first to cross the finishing line in todays’ second race) and Bogacki/Steinborn, respectively in second and third position. Italians Kosuta/Farneti won the first race of the day.
In the female division German Bochman/Lorenz kept the head of the results winning a race again (the first one of the day). They were followed by Slovenian Mrak/Teja in second position and by Croatian Nincevic/Zupan who won the final race of the series.
By discarding last race score (eighth) in an almost perfect scoring series, French sailor Jean Baptist Bernaz won in the Laser class. Another French sailor, Rodrigue Cabaz, was second, while the Belgian Wannes van Laer was third.
In the Olympic Laser Radial class the winners are both from Italy; Giuditta Laghi (women) and Mario Benini, elder brother of Marco, the Byte CII sailor who allowed Italy to qualify for next year Olympic Youth Games.
The 2010 Imperia Winter Regatta will be held from 5 to 12 December.
350 teams from 28 different countries (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lituania, Monaco, Netherland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, Ucraine) took part in the event.
