20th Imperia Winter Regatta at Yacht Club Imperia - Day 4

The Byte CII European Championship ended today. The event is organized by Yacht Club Imperia and it is also the Continental Qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games 2010.
The Byte sailors had 3 more races on a rainy day with a North Easterly wind up to 8 knots. The Championship ended with 10 races sailed out of the 12 scheduled. Overall scoring was calculated with the discard of competitors two worst scores.
The winner of the men's series is the Hungarian Peter Batho who kept his lead, followed by Finnish Kaarle Tapper in second position and Italian Marco Benini, third.
In the women's division nothing changed as well at the top of the results; the first teenage lady sailor is Pole Sara Piasecka who finished in front of Austrian Lara Vadlau with Daphne van Der Vaart from Holland in third.
In both the men's and women's divisions the top ranked competitors from the first 7 different European countries in the final scoring qualified his country for the Youth Olympic Games 2010 to be held next summer in Singapore.
The Olympic 470 and Laser classes were at sea today again on a different sail area and sailed two more races.
In the 470 class, women's teams proved to be better the men teams. The German ladies Bochmann/Lorenz, who are the leaders of the division overall results, crossed the finishing line in front of everybody else in the first race of the day. Leader of the men's division is the Italian team of Desiderato/Fonda.
No changes as well in the Laser class; Frenchman Jean Baptiste Bernaz is still the leader, today he was twice winner.
The 29er and L’Equipe International meeting ended today. The fleet was based in Imperia Porto Maurizio and they didn't have any racing today but they sailed 6 races in the past three days.
The winners are; Italian brothers Savio from in 29er class; Italian girls Addari/Perini in L’Equipe class and home team Pozzoli/Riano in L’Equipe class under 12 division.
Tomorrow sees the end of the 20th Imperia Winter Regatta with the last races for 470s and Lasers.
350 teams from 28 different countries (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lituania, Monaco, Netherland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, Ucraine) are attending the event.
