East Coast Sailing Week with BP - Day 5

by Fiona Brown and Nigel Duncan 23 Jul 2004 08:36 BST

Port Edgar yachtsman Murray Carmichael yesterday (THURS) added to his already impressive list of successes in the BP-sponsored East Coast Sailing Week. The Port Edgar-based yachtsman won Class Three in the Passage race from Port Edgar to Granton rounding Inchkeith.

It was his second win of the highly-competitive week and he adds it to two second places and two thirds in the popular event being held in the River Forth for the first time in three years. His yacht, Naiad, was one of 70 entrants in yesterday's (WED) race which took place in sunshine and a ten-knot, south-west breeze.

The course was running and reaching benefitting the slower yachts under handicap in each class which meant there were several new prizewinners on day five of the popular event featuring yachts from the north of Scotland to the River Tyne.

Port Edgar helmsmen continued to dominate Class One with yachts taking the first three placings. Jock Blair took the honours this time after coming third in the Passage Race from Granton to Port Edgar on Wednesday.
