East Coast Sailing Week with BP - Day 3

by Fiona Brown & Nigel Duncan 21 Jul 2004 07:41 BST 20.7.2004

Edinburgh roofing contractor Keith Miller last night (TUES) celebrated his first major race win. The popular yachtsman had a dream day, sailing 34-ft Silver Dollar into first place in Race 4 of BP-backed East Coast Sailing Week.

The Cramond Boat Club member steered the three-tonne yacht perfectly in a light south-east, two to five knot, breeze off Granton.

And his win in Class One over the Olympic course was greeted with huge cheers when it was announced at the function following another testing day in the Firth of Forth for the 70 entrants.

Jock Blair of Port Edgar Yacht Club had to be content with second place in the race after winning the Class One division of Race Three event earlier in the day with his yacht Robo.

Aeolus skippered by Eric Van Waart of Royal Northumberland Yacht Club was second in Race Three on the windward/leeward race in an easterly breeze force two to three.

The popular event, which has attracted entries from as far north as Moray and as far south as Whitley Bay, continues today (WED) with a passage race from Granton to Port Edgar.
