East Coast Sailing Week with BP - Day 4

by Fiona Brown and Nigel Duncan 21 Jul 2004 22:54 BST

Port Edgar yachtsmen last night (WED) celebrated a glory treble in Race Five of BP-sponsored East Coast Sailing Week. Alouette, skippered by John Murphy, won Class 1 to add to his recent second place in the Banff to Stavanger race.

Businessman Murphy, who is chairman of East Coast Sailing Week, lead the class home in the Passage Race from Granton across the River Forth to Aberdour before heading up and under the Forth Bridges to Limekilns to a spinnaker finish at Port Edgar.

The weather was kind and the steady, south-west, 15-knot wind made for exciting spinnaker work. Second was Absolutely 2 skippered by Ken Kelly and third Robo with Jock Blair at the helm. Port Edgar-based Naiad, skippered by Murray Carmichael, won Class Four beating six H boats in the process.
