Audi Lasersailing International Grand Prix - Day 5

AQUATONIC WIN SECOND TITLE
Andy & Dave Richards won their second successive Laser 5000 UK National Championship title today, and moved closer to winning their first Audi Laser Euro Cup when they fought off Proctor's challenge to win the event.
It was finals day for the Laser 5000s, so there are no discards and every point counts in an intense day of racing as a finale to the regatta. A comfortable lead in the first two races gave them a reasonable cushion of seven points, meaning they could be up to seven places behind Proctor's Mark Rushall & Jonny Meers in the final race. Proctor forced them off the the wrong end of the start line and the rounded outside the top ten, whilst Proctor were in second behind RWO - giving them the lead overall, but steadily Aquatonic clawed there way past the boats in front to finish 4th and win the event. Proctor were second, and RWO won the last race to confirm their third place in the series.
With another day's racing to go, the Laser 4000s entered their Final Series. Only those who have qualified race in the Gold Fleet, where every place becomes make or break, and suddenly no-one is easy to pass. Adobe suffered under the pressure and after scoring five wins in the past three days, they scored three results in the teens, and dropped to second overall. "Sleeping giants" Monarch Team Unlimited have now stirred into action and lead by ten points after a steady day of top ten results. Gul's Rob Larke & Dave Chisholm have moved up to third and are now pressing Adobe for second place.
In the Silver fleet for those who didn't qualify there was one obvious winner. The French team of Ralf Plaenkers & Isaline Marcel won all three races to take the lead by a substantial margin.
Also with another day's racing, Audi Foundation's Andy White is dominating the Laser.eps fleet. With seven wins from ten races he is showing that fitness and racing skills are hard to better in such a small and efficient boat. Laser Scotland's Andrew Knowles is chasing him, whilst Hawk's Adrian Brunton is only a few points behind.
The forecast tells of force five winds tomorrow, so we are all prepared for some action packed racing as the last two fleets enter their finals day.
