Celebrating 96 years since the first Fastnet Race, the founding race of the Royal Ocean Racing Club, this was one of the first ‘classic 600 milers’ and today is the world’s largest participation offshore race with 388 starters in 2019. It attracts an international fleet: From audacious twohanded competitors to amateur yachtsmen on cruiser-racers through to professionally crewed high performance multihulls. This event caters for every competitor looking for the ultimate challenge. Starting from the Royal Yacht Squadron line the fleet will progress through the Needles and along the southwest coast, before navigating past Land’s End and up through the Celtic Sea to round the Fastnet Rock, returning past the Scilly Isles. New for this edition is the finish moving to Cherbourg. This has lengthened the course and provides the final challenge of the Alderney Race.
