Loch Ness Monster Race preview

by Chris Browning 28 Jun 2004 15:01 BST 28 Auhust 2004

On 28th August, there is scheduled a new Race for Long Distance Catamaran fans. Sailing the full length of Loch Ness - twice - on the ultimate windward leeward course!

Fresh water, no tide and 700ft deep and only a mile wide make this a course to be reckoned with. The event iis being jointly run by the Scotland and North of England Catamaran Class Association and Peterhead SC, and managed from the village of Dores, South West of Inverness on the August Bank Holiday weekend. The organisation of this event has been assisted by the Highland Council, Tomatin Distillery and www.vizarch.co.uk

Open to all beach catamarans with an SCHRS handicap rating of 1.10 or lower, this inaugural running of the Monster Race allows spectators an unrivalled view of the action, with a road running the full length of the course, and boats passing under the ramparts of the famous Urquart Castle.

To coincide with the Race, the Village of Dores are laying on a gala weekend with live music, barbeques and bars until the early hours, with family entertainment throughout the day.

If you want to take part, or want more information, please contact Chris Browning on lochness@snecca.org.uk or visit the information page at www.snecca.org.uk

There is a maximum number of participants, so please register your intention to take part as soon as possible!
