MDI Loch Ness Monster Race 2007 - Preview

by Loch Ness Monster 28 Mar 2007 11:03 BST 25 August 2007

Long Distance cat fans - thanks to the kind people at Marine Design International, our title sponsors for 2007, The MDI Loch Ness Monster Race will happen on August 25th this year.

Did I mention the £500 CASH PRIZE?

Further information will follow, including Notice of Race, entry fees, website allowing pre-registration, accommodation details etc, but here is a flavour of the event:

This is the UK's longest Freshwater Long Distance Cat Race at 50 miles long. It is thought to be the longest in Europe too.

The ultimate 50 mile windward / leeward course, running 25 miles up, and 25 miles down the famous Loch Ness.

It's only a lake? Loch Ness holds more water than every river and lake in England and Wales put together. Fact! It's a biggy!

The race is run from the pub (where else) in the village of Dores at the North East end of the Loch, just 8 miles from Inverness and the A9. The race starts and finishes off the beach adjacent to the pub.

There is no sailing club on Loch Ness. SNECCA, acting with Peterhead Sailing Club bring an experienced management and rescue team to the event, capitalising on the huge success of the inaugural event in 2004.

The race course uniquely has a road around the course following the 50 mile route, with the Loch allowing competitors within feet of the shore due to the sheer sides, giving a stunning spectator view of proceedings. For families and hangers on not keen on watching the action, the Drumnadrochit Highland Games is held on the same day on the banks of the Loch.

Too far to drive? Get someone to drive a multi-boat trailer up and take an Easyjet flight to Inverness for a few magic beans!

Distance is no excuse. The 2004 Race saw a competitor from Spain! He is planning to return this year! The 2004 winner is threatening to return to defend his title, although on a different weapon.

Our title sponsors are Marine Design International. A Scottish Marine Design Company, that we are delighted to welcome to this event.

In an exciting new twist to Long Distance Racing, we are pleased to announce that Blaser Chiropractic of the Park Practice in Glasgow have put up a £500, winner takes all, CASH PRIZE!

The single handed sailors will have prizes provided by the guys at JJCats.biz

We hope that you all feel inspired to join us, and make this the Long Distance event of the year!

Please contact Nessie (email lochnesscatamarans@hotmail.co.uk) to register your interest in the event, and we will make sure you are included in all mail shts regarding this event.

You know you want to!
