Comet Trio Open Meeting at Frensham Pond Sailing Club

by Stephen Whittle 12 Aug 2002 13:38 BST

10th August 2002

The forecast for the day looked poor, however, for those who turned up were blessed with fair north west winds and sunshine for the afternoon making a great days sailing which shared the event with the Comet class. Three races were sailed with Stephen and Kieran Whittle taking a port end flyer in the first race which paid off and after a battle with Eric Goodly with Geoff Kempton and Kieth Bannister with John Winchester took a mid race lead only to be beaten to the line in a late attack from Goodley. The second race saw some close sailing with Matt and Geoff Gee (runners up in the inland nationals) fighting for the top places. The Whittle team again gained clear air form the rest of the fleet and managed to hold on to first place despite another attack from Goodley and the Gee's. The final race saw a fine display of inland sailing in the sunshine from Eric Goodley and Keith Bannister who struck out with an early lead which increased for the duration of the race. D! ave Talbot with son Richard sailed hard to achieve a third place behind Goodley first and Bannister second.
