Comet Trio Inland Championships at Cotswold Sailing Club

by Guy Farrant 27 May 2009 08:14 BST 23-24 May 2009

The Comet Trio inland championship attracted 9 boats, held at Cotswold Sailing Club. The club extended a warm welcome, excellent catering and entertainment. Unfortunately there was NO wind.

In the lightest of airs the first race nearly came foul of the 90 min rule. Red Baron got away on a puff and held this. The second half of the fleet struggled to finish within the 20 min limit.

After a long postponement, the afternoon race 2 began in a hint of wind but very fickle. All crews ached from leaning in awkward positions, one sighted a crayfish, all admired 5 freshly hatched signets with proud parents. Contagious advanced to the lead and held this to the finish.

Day 2 started overcast with a very light Northerly air. Dennis the menace and Go with the Flow broke away from the fleet. The vagaries of the wind were demonstrated by the fact that the winner of the previous race was last in this one. Indeed the trying conditions were testing the mental ability of sailors to cope with frustration.

Race 4 for pond dwellers saw Dennis The Menace confirm his ability to sniff out the faintest of airs and finish first and rightly claim the championship.
