Bank of Scotland ISO Multi Gala at Weston Sailing Club

by Pete Lindley 30 Jul 2001 14:18 BST

The weekend of 21st and 22nd of July saw the Bank of Scotland sponsored Topper multi gala took place at Weston S.C. with gusty force 2 - 5 conditions making racing intesesting and tactical. The ISO fleet got underway with 1013 RWO Pete Lindley and Jonny Blackhouse winning ahead of 1188 Vehicle Inigma Systems, Ian and Katie Keam - George followed by 1196 Flying Banana in a uncustomary third after a months break from sailing the ISO.

The Sailing in race two was very close until RWO decided to go the opposite side of the run to the fleet, taking a 100 yard lead. As the fleet approached the gate on the upwind leg the recalled buzz fleet were just starting, causing some interesting manoeuvres. RWO went on to win chased by 1198 and 815 Ride the Punani, Mike Lillywhite and Martin Brooks coming third making a change from their customary 4th position.

The third race saw some of the mid fleet boats up with the leaders around the first mark with back on form flying banana leading from start to finish followed by RWO and 1188 in third.

On Sunday the lighter winds were an advantage for some of the light crews. 1196 Lead the first race followed by RWO with newcomers 773 Penny Garton and B. Greensmith taking third.

Race 5 Saw 815 leading around the first mark in slightly more breeze. 1188 made all of the right moves to come through to win ahead of 1198 and 773.

With slightly stronger breeze coming in for the final race 1196 consolidated their overall position by leading from start to finish followed by RWO and 1188.
