Leigh-on-Sea Sailing Club Brass Monkey Race

The Leigh-on-Sea Sailing Club Brass Monkey Race took place on Sunday 29th December with a record 53 entries. It was indeed 'brass monkeys' but sailors from Thorpe Bay Yacht Club and Essex Yacht Club, Benfleet Yacht Club, Thames Estuary Yacht Club, Creeksea Sailing Club and Wembley Sailing Club also took part with excellent support for the race with RIBs from the clubs.

After a great start from all the boats in light winds (5 to 10 knots), the Hurricane 5.9 SX's were putting the laps in and the Lasers / ILCAs were at the back of the pack. Sailors were enjoying the day despite the cold, as the sea state was calm with no rogue gusts of wind, although the wind became stronger towards the end of the race aiding the winner Seb Baucutt in his ISO.
