Mirror Weekend 2026 at Hunts Sailing Club

by Hannah Rose 9 Jul 16:02 BST 13-14 June 2026

The 2026 Hunts Mirror Weekend gave us two contrasting days of a lot of wind and very little! With a smaller fleet than usual due to some missing regulars, five boats overall braved the gusts on Saturday and practised starts, short races and sailing in windy conditions.

On Sunday, five boats again summoned a different type of bravery and exercised every ounce of concentration to tackle the shifty, patchy and occasionally non-existent winds.

With the fleet made up of five completely different boats in terms of hull, rig, crew and spinnaker, some very close racing saw Ron Vass taking all three wins, Helen and/without Bronwyn fought to come in second place in their newly launched boat and Hannah/Mike held up the gaff rigs to take third.

Special mentions:

  • This was our youngest crew's first day in a Mirror, which sadly came to a premature end after an unceremonious dunking by her mum - hopefully she'll be back in the boat soon!
  • Ron for winning his first event Open Meeting!

Afternote: Although results were taken from finishes as a fleet overall, thanks to Ron Vass for working out a series of PYs taking into account the differences in rig, spinnaker and crew. Interestingly the first three positions remained the same!

Results:

1st: Ron Vass
2nd: Helen/Bronwyn Hughes
3rd: Hannah Rose and Mike Sargent
