Goakes Trophy at Overy Staithe Sailing Club

by Andy Turner 5 May 06:46 BST 4 May 2026

A cold northerly greeted the 17 boats competing in the two races for the Goakes Trophy on Monday 4 May. There was also the rare occurrence of a general recall in the first race and general mumblings from the race committee that we might have to get a black flag board.

Once the start got under way Alex Scoles and Pete Turner in their OKs battled together up the first beat, but a 720 from Pete put him back with two more OKs, those of Bernard Clark and Spike Turner. The Sharpie of Alex Smith and Paul Beachell was going well in anticipation of the club's Sharpie Open in two weeks time. The course was something of a procession so not much place changing took place. The two junior Toppers sailed very well to finish.
