The 2025 EurILCA Europa Cup GER concluded yesterday after four days of competition in Warnemünde, Germany. Favourable sailing conditions allowed all 302 sailors from 32 countries to enjoy the final two races in the ILCA 4, ILCA 6, and ILCA 7 classes.

In the ILCA 7, Julian Hoffmann GER from Allgäu launched a final-day charge for second place. The 22-year-old finished ahead of Alexandre Kowalski FRA in both of the day's races. However, the Frenchman narrowly held on to second overall, preventing a German one-two finish.

The top spot, meanwhile, had already been secured after the first race of the day. Ole Schweckendiek GER from Kiel clinched the overall win with a victory in that race but chose to enjoy the final outing, finishing 16th in the last race.

National coach Alexander Schlonski described his team's results as strong preparation for upcoming highlights in the season, including the 2025 ILCA Senior European Championships and the Junior World Championships. Julian Hoffmann was also satisfied:

"Fifth and fourth place today was a solid day. The focus for the Warnemünder Woche was on working on the starts and getting through without a jump start. That worked out well. It was also about keeping track of things in a large fleet and assessing the field. I think I'm well on my way to the European Championships in Marstrand."

Winner Ole Schweckendiek, meanwhile, is now focused on the Junior World Championships in Dublin:

"The starts were maybe 50 to 60 percent good. The key was consistency throughout the races," said the Kiel native. "I didn't train for three days because of a cold, so I wasn't at my best physically. But tactically, it went very well. I focused on making the most of the shifts. I read the edges well—it all came together nicely."

ILCA 7 Overall Results: (top five)

1 Ole Schweckendiek GER 19 pts
2 Alexandre Kowalski FRA 40 pts
3 Julian Hoffmann GER 42 pts
4 Lorenzo Mayer FRA 64 pts

While the German and French men dominated the ILCA 7 competition, Denmark secured two medals in the ILCA 6. After a disqualification the day before, World Championship fourth-place finisher Anna Munch DEN had to fight hard for a podium spot—and she did so impressively, finishing with a fifth place and a race win. However, it wasn't enough to challenge her compatriot Mads Wegener Larsen DEN.

The young talent from Aarhus had taken the lead after three days and successfully defended it with a third and a second place on the final day. This victory adds to a string of strong performances by the Dane, who recently won the YES Regatta and placed 12th at the World Championships.

Third place in the ILCA 6 went to Levian Büscher GER. The sailor from Düsseldorf, who had recently won Kiel Week and finished 10th at the World Championships, initially led the field at Warnemünder Woche. But like Anna Munch, Büscher had a tough day that pushed him off course for the win. Still, with a strong final-day performance—1st and 4th place—he managed to secure the bronze medal.

In the ILCA 4, Turkish sailor Kaya Üner TUR pulled off a major coup. The young talent from Istanbul claimed victory with a consistent series of top-ten finishes, edging out Cassandra Jansch GER of Hamburg and Wesse Brink NED of the Netherlands.

"They were great races in good conditions. It suited me. I like the waves, and I also liked the weather. The temperature felt like spring or autumn in Istanbul.", said Kaya Üner.

Üner still has the Turkish Championship on his regatta schedule in the coming weeks. After that, he plans to decide whether to move up to the ILCA 6.
