by Agustín Argüelles / ILCA 29 Sep 2025 11:30 BST 19-28 September 2025

The 2025 ILCA Master World Championships came to a close on Sunday in Formia, wrapping up a week of challenging conditions, fierce international competition, and unforgettable moments both on and off the water.

The final day greeted sailors with shifting winds up to 10 knots, testing their skills one last time before the overall standings were finalized. After a week filled with patience, light breezes, and tactical battles, the new World Champions were crowned across all fleets.

The 2025 ILCA Master World Championships showcased the diversity and inclusivity of the sailing community, with 45 women sailors competing alongside their male counterparts. Additionally, the event saw an inspiring presence of 30 Legend sailors, all aged 75 and over, including some remarkable athletes aged 87 and 89. Their participation not only highlighted the enduring spirit of the sport but also emphasized the strength and passion of the ILCA Master community across generations.

The Closing Ceremony in Formia this evening celebrated the winners and the spirit of the ILCA Master community. Flags waved, music played, and applause filled the air as sailors from 38 nations gathered to mark the end of a remarkable championship.

Jon Emmett GBR, freshly crowned World Champion, reflected on his week: "I'm super happy to win because it was a tough week. Seven days of sailing is long but amazing."

Bruno Fontes BRA, who claimed the title in his fleet, shared his emotion: "I've always wanted to be a World Champion, and now the time has come."

With 455 sailors on the starting line and a robust program both on and off the water, the 2025 ILCA Master World Championships showcased the strength, resilience, and camaraderie of the global ILCA Master community.
