The team from the Streaker stand are just coming back down to earth after a phenomenal 2 days at the RYA Dinghy Show. Right from opening time Saturday morning through to 4.00 pm Sunday crowds of visitors were never ending. The whole team of 15 helpers ranging from committee members through to regular association members worked in shifts, tirelessly dealing with sailors eager to be introduced to the delights of Streaker sailing.
A success? I should say. The beautiful concours Butler built composite Streaker “Paxo” drew admiring looks and lots of stroking of her varnished decks and the all new Rondar moulded Streaker from Rooster created a very big stir. Just to prove that there is a Streaker for everyone there were 5 enquiries for kit supplied boats. Requests for test sails have yet to be confirmed but will total somewhere between 20 and 30.
The “Name a Streaker” competition sponsored by Henri Lloyd attracted a huge 117 legitimate entries and the high creative standard of the entries will exercise the judges somewhat. Even Paul Goodison had to visit the stand to renew his acquaintance with the Streaker – it will be news for many to know that he learned his skills in a Streaker before moving on to become world number 1 in his Olympic class. Although probably not requiring any extra sailing clothing he too placed an entry into the Henri Lloyd competition.
As for the 'Woman’s Hour'… fellas, you took advantage! It was meant to be women Streaker sailors speaking to interested women sailors, not blokes! Next year behave and do as you are told.
