Minima Yacht Club Annual Regatta

by John Forbes 11 Sep 2003 13:34 BST

Minima Yacht Club's annual open regatta last Saturday and Sunday (September 6 and 7) was dominated by the Kingston-upon-Thames Club's home sailors, although a fair turn-out came from Twickenham Yacht Club, with their National 12s monopolising the handicap class.

Conditions early on Sunday were quite atrocious, with zero wind and a large oil spill adding to the atmosphere, and neither day saw anything much over force 1 Southerly-South-Easterly, barring the last half hour of the second race, but the long courses set managed to entertain, with enough wind in the open stretches to entertain and challenge with the river's predictably unpredictable shifts.

Prizes were presented by Mayor of Kingston-upon-Thames, Councillor Dennis Doe, who spoke of the importance of protecting and preserving the beauty of Kingston reach.
