The NorthStar SailGP Team leaves the Spain Sail Grand Prix in Valencia in 6th place on the season leaderboard, moving ahead of France in the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship.
Racing with the support of Google Gemini as a team sponsor for the Spanish event, NorthStar's weekend combined progress in the championship standings and included a memorable moment for Canadian fans.
The action began on Friday, September 4, when Ryan Reynolds joined NorthStar for a head-to-head celebrity 6th sailor race against Hugh Jackman onboard the BONDS Flying Roos.
Held ahead of the Spain Grand Prix, the race brought the actors' familiar rivalry onto the water. Reynolds wore a custom Deadpool helmet onboard the NorthStar F50, while Jackman sported a Wolverine-inspired design. Reynolds and NorthStar emerged victorious, giving the Canadian actor bragging rights over fellow BONDS Flying Roos co-owner.
The focus then shifted to championship racing, with NorthStar's performance across the Grand Prix weekend moving the team ahead of DS Automobiles SailGP Team France in the overall season standings.
"Moving up into 6th place is an important step for NorthStar and reflects the hard work of our athletes, coaches and shore crew," said the team's CEO Phil Kennard. "Welcoming Ryan Reynolds onboard, and taking the win against Hugh Jackman, was a memorable way to start the weekend and share the excitement of this sport with a wider audience. Our focus now turns to Geneva."
Driver Giles Scott said: "It was incredibly fickle racing today, but we did a good job making the most out of the possibilities of getting onto the foils. It's tight where we are on the season leaderboard, we just want to keep progressing and we'll see what happens over the last three Grand Prix events."
NorthStar now heads to the Switzerland Sail Grand Prix on September 19-20 in Geneva, where the team will look to build on its move into sixth and continue climbing the season leaderboard.
