After an action packed Bank Holiday Weekend, the first day of the midweek series looked like a chance to unwind and ease into the rest of the week, yet, as shouts of "Protest!" were heard on the Pile House Start Line, it turned out the midweek series is serious business.
Sharing a start with Class 5, Tabitha & Nicholas Plank's Slingshot won the day in the class 1&2.
In Class 5, Flashheart - co-owned by Dan Wastnage and Doug Duce, finally found their pace and topped the day, with Daryl Mylroie's Eclipse taking second place and John Saunders' Jeannie finishing third.
Class 6 saw Phillip Harbott's Mantra win, followed by Mark Wade's Avalanche Too and Richard Moore's Ophelia.
The East Coast One Design fleet showed up in full strength and Beccs Polden's Delphine finished the day top, with Rufus Whiteford's Gigi in second place and Nicholas Cottrell's Nancy in third.
Stephen Herring's Red Jacket won the Royal Burnham One Design race, while James Dallimore's Whimbrel and Simon Hollington's Beryl completed the top three.
Martin Makey's Corinna was the top Royal Corinthian One Design boat, followed by Justin Waples' Cormorant and Robert Campbell's Coram, with the fleet finishing the day on a joyous note, despite one of the boats showing a brief willingness to become a submarine.
In the Squib class, Ray Apthorp and Ian Simons - Chequemate, had another good start for the series and hopes it sticks this time, finishing top.
Malcolm Hutchings and Andy Carley in Lady Penelope came second and Blaze National Champion, Charlie Matthews, crewed by Fred Brown, finished in third place.
More sailing still to come, with the second day of the Midweek Series during the morning and the John Torrance Trophy, hosted by Burnham Sailing Club, in the evening of Wednesday 2nd September.
