Burnham Week 2026 - Day 2

Sunshine returned for the second day of Burnham Week 2026, with rowers taking over the river and some classes completing their first races of this year's regatta.
Busy weekend for Burnham on Crouch Coastal Rowing Club, with their habitual Trafalgar Day being promoted to a full weekend.
After the celebrations from yesterday when Team Aurora was welcomed back home from their record setting voyage, the roles were reversed and Dawn and Paul awarded the trophies for Trafalgar Day, part of Nelson Cup series, at the prize-giving ceremony hosted by Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.
The race was won jointly by Rozinante from Benfleet and Wivenhoe Corsairs' Defiance, with the local boat, Wren, finishing in third place.
Up river, at the Burnham Sailing Club the fast and slow dinghies fleets, along with the ILCA/Lasers, were joined by the youngsters from the Beastie tour, with optimists, RS Feva, RS Tera and a Topper being a welcome addition, with some of the boats recording results for both Burnham Week and the Beastie tour.
The Beastie fast fleet, sailed on RS Feva XL, was won by Sammy Buckley and Sab Warren, with Abbi Sinclair and Sophie Sinclair coming in second.
The Beastie Optimist fleet was won by Seb Mears, while Thomas Child took the second and Angus Long third.
The Beastie slow fleet, sailed on RS Tera and a Topper, was won by Monty Mawditt, Edward Gould taking the second spot and Florence Rowen third.
Ant Law continues to lead overnight in fast handicap fleet, recording two 4th places and a first, while Emily Davis and Richard Pye are close in second place and BSC's Jo Tribe and Marcus Collingbourne in third.
In the slow handicap fleet, an unfortunate capsize put an end to Jess Wright and Molly Mears day, leaving Sammy Buckley and Seb Warren on top overnight.
James Hutton-Penman kept racking wins in the ILCA/Laser fleet, with the day's three bullets making him favourite for the Bank Holiday win, while Noah Mathers sits in second and Nicholas Hutton-Penman in third.
At the Pile House line, the East Coast One Designs braved the sunshine and joined the fun times on the Crouch and Roach, with Widgeon, helmed by Ian Wilson, winning the race, while Delphine, helmed by Beccs Polden and Gigi - Rufus Whiteford, followed in second and third place.
Big changes at the top in the 707 class where Flynn Davies boat, bow number 4, recorded two wins to finish the day on top, draw on points to Alex Hill, bow number 3, while Paul Woodward - bow number 2, draw Jake Braybrook, bow number 1 for the 3rd spot, leaving everything open for the last day of the Bank Holiday Weekend.
In class 1 and 2, Paul Trueman, sailing on Exile, scored another win, while Tabitha & Nicholas Plank' Slingshot and Nick Moulton's Dabtoe are equal on points, in second place.
John Saunders' Jeannie got a second win and leads overnight, while Richard Taylor's Rondo, consistently third is second overall and Jess Haigh's Outburst! third.
6 boats lined up for the start of Class 6, with Richard Moore's Ophelia taking the win and sitting top of the table, draw on points with Ian and Michèle Langston's Fifi, at 3 points each.
Simon Sanders' Vovager and Digger Harden's Sorcerer are sharing the 3rd and 4th, while Mark Wade's Avalanche Too, after finally starting with the right class, are sitting in 5th.
Peter Marchant's Beauty and the Beast got the win in the Dragons race, with Ian Gray's Still Crazy and Rob Campbell's Dublin Bay following in second and third.
Robert Shaw and Ian Little are still top of the Osprey table, after a second place today, while Roger and James Blake are one point away in second place, with Russell Wheeler in third place and Lucie and Adam Prior in fourth.
The Phantoms had 2 races scheduled for the day, with Bill Taylor and Mark Spruce getting a win each, with the overall winner to be decided on the last day.
With a second place today, Will Dallimore's Mandarin retains the top position overnight, while James Dallimore's Whimbrel is two points away after finishing 3rd and Simon Hollington's Beryl is third, with a 4th place.
The orange RCOD, Cormorant, helmed by Justin Waples took another win and stayed top overnight, with Paul Buckley's Coryphee moving to second overall, after a second place today and Clive and Graeme Page are third, sailing on Corpo Santo.
Bill Blank's Blind Squirrel scored a conveniently discarded 3rd place today, along with another win, thus gaining a fragile margin at the top of the leaderboard, in front of Neil Fulcher's All the gear and Richard Bavin' Serious Moonlight.
Shoutout to Trevor Bawden, usually seen helming a Hurricane or a Blaze, who drove Flo to a well deserved second place today and sits just out of top 3.
Quite an interesting day for the Squibs, with 18 boats on the water and lots to play for all over the fleet.
Chip Cole and David Smith - Dark n Stormy are leading overnight, after a discarded 7th and a 3rd on the day, while Ben Hutton-Penman and Ian Brand - Easy are second, with a 3rd and a win and Micky Wright and Alex Porteous - Spoof clawing their way back into top 3.
Lots left to play for for many of the fleets, the Monday of the Bank Holiday weekend is going to be packed with racing, no less than 3 prize-giving ceremonies and the usual parties.
