Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alanna Field as its new Sailing Academy Manager.
Alanna brings extensive experience in sailing, coaching and the day-to-day delivery of sailing programs to the role, having been an integral part of the RQYS Sailing Academy and broader sailing operations for the past 12 months.
In her new role, Alanna will be responsible for the operational management of the Sailing Academy, overseeing the delivery and development of programs ranging from introductory learn-to-sail activities through to youth and performance pathways.
The appointment represents an important step forward for the Academy as RQYS continues to expand participation opportunities and strengthen the pathway for sailors from their first experience on the water through to competitive sailing.
Alanna has already played an important role within the Academy and has demonstrated a strong understanding of the requirements involved in delivering quality sailing programs, managing equipment and resources, supporting coaches and instructors, and providing a positive experience for participants and their families.
"Alanna has demonstrated the skills, commitment and attitude required to take the Academy forward," said Marine Sports Operations Manager, Mark Dingley. "She has a strong understanding of our programs and our members, and I am confident she will bring energy and a clear focus to the continued development of the Academy"
The Sailing Academy is a key part of RQYS's sailing program, introducing hundreds of participants to the sport each year while providing development pathways for young sailors looking to progress into competitive sailing.
With an increasingly diverse range of programs encompassing dinghy sailing, youth development, performance sailing, keelboats, windsurfing, wingfoiling and school programs, the Academy continues to play a significant role in growing the sport and developing the next generation of sailors.
Commodore Curtis Skinner commented "the Squadron prides itself on ensuring we have the best leaders in our business to ensure success fro the start of a sailors journey and make sure they are grounded with the best knowledge to progress through our sport. There is no doubt Alanna will lead the Sailing Academy well through the next period".
Alanna's appointment will also support closer integration between the Academy and the Squadron's broader sailing operations, creating further opportunities for participants to progress into club racing, regattas and competitive sailing.
"I am really excited about the opportunity to lead the Sailing Academy and build on the work already being done by our coaches, instructors and staff," said Alanna. "The Academy provides such an important pathway into sailing, and I look forward to creating more opportunities for our members and participants to enjoy the sport and develop their skills."
The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron congratulates Alanna on her appointment and looks forward to seeing the Sailing Academy continue to grow under her leadership.
