Sportboats shine in Quiberon Bay

Quiberon Bay provided a very pleasant setting this Saturday for the Open 7.50 and Mach 6.5 classes at the Spi Ouest-France Banque Populaire Grand Ouest regatta. Under sunny skies, spring-like temperatures, and a 15-knot wind that gradually increased throughout the day, the race committee was able to run a three-race program for both classes. The sportboats engaged in close battles throughout this beautiful Easter day.

Open 7.50: Banque Populaire takes the lead

At the end of this second day, among the eleven crews registered in the Open 7.50 class, Banque Populaire, skippered by Lois Berrehar and with Basile Bourgnon, Quentin Ponroy, Paul Philibert, and Tugdual Guillemot on board, leads the overall standings with 9 points. Exemplary consistency—never outside the top 3—clearly puts him in a strong position at the halfway point. Behind him, the battle for the podium promises to be thrilling: Nicolas Groleau on BT Blue is 14 points behind, closely followed by Thomas Normand and his formidable crew on Altaïr, 15 points back. All Purpose, skippered by Frédéric Moreau, holds onto fourth place. Everything remains to play for the top three spots.

Mach 6.5: Dimension Polyant in the Lead

In the Mach 6.5 class, eight crews fiercely competed on the water. Dimension Polyant, skippered by Mathieu Bourdais, had an up-and-down day but maintained its lead with 8 points. A comfortable gap, but not yet decisive. Mathieu Jones on Alternative Sailing is in second place, 12 points behind, and remains in contention, one point ahead of Yann Sassy (L'Ankou). Third place remains wide open. Dimension Polyant II (Jérôme Aubert) and West Paysages (Manu Guédon) are currently in fourth and fifth positions.

A near-perfect Sunday

The crews will return to the water early Sunday morning with a west to northwest wind, offering relatively calm and fairly even sailing conditions. A few light showers are possible in the morning, but the afternoon promises to be increasingly sunny, with clearing skies and a steady, consistent wind of around 15 knots. These conditions could shake things up in both classes, where the gaps remain minimal.
