23rd Spi-Ouest Regatta at La Trinite-sur-Mer Overall

by Mark Jardine 17 Apr 2001 17:30 BST

Spi-Ouest Regatta finished yesterday with one race for the 500 competitors on the 3 courses. The wind had died down a little from the day before and blue sky was over the bay of Quiberon.

The battle between Stuart Jardine and David Ellis for 1st place in the J/24 fleet was won by Stuart Jardine and his team aboard Stouche after a convincing win in the final race. Jo English won the last race and the Sportsboat fleet overall in his Cork 1720.

After the prizegiving the usually wine and oysters were handed out to the winning teams from each fleet. These are portioned out using a see-saw weighing scale with the heaviest member of the crew on one end and the wine and oysters on the other.

The English winning teams went out to celebrate last night in Carnac and headed back to the UK today, which explains the lateness of this report...
