Dell Quay Sailing Club Frostbite Series 2025/26 - Day 3

by James Pound 17 Jan 22:18 GMT 4 January 2026

A very light and shifting SE breeze greeted a superb turnout of 23 crews for 2 races. As the drizzle fizzled in and out, so did the breeze, but the RO managed to set a great course.

This gave plenty of position changes in the first race, with big shifts and some excellent sailing by various crews (and some silly mistakes by one solo sailor... me!) led to a great first race.

Roger Puttock was never going to be stopped in his Solo with a superb nearly 2 minute clear win over second placed Will Parrett in his full rig Laser followed by Bill Dawber and Sue Manning in the 2000.

After allowing the breeze to stabilise the RO got the second race off in a slightly steadier and increased pressure allowing for a little hiking and again some strong racing with lots going on across the race course.

Bill and Sue sailed a great second race getting the win in the 2000 followed by Roger in the Solo but Richard Tanner who joined from Langstone SC this weekend had a blinder to get a third place!

The Juniors had their own start this weekend and some very competitive sailing was taking place, sadly for Theodore Valentin from Felpham SC, an OCS in the second race has led to a blot on his otherwise perfect score sheet of first places across the series so far! Bad luck!

A great buzz in the club afterwards and all appreciated the fact the temperature was several degrees warmer than the previous very chilly weekend! Big shout as always to the galley and safety crews for giving us such a lovely morning on the water!! Next frostbite race weekend 31st Jan, see you there!!
