The Junior European Championship for the Nacra 17, 49er, and 49erFX classes, hosted by Circolo Velico Sferracavallo (Palermo), got off to an excellent start yesterday. Perfect sailing conditions and a spectacular atmosphere on the racecourse set the tone for an exciting weekend ahead.

Under clear skies and bright sunshine, a light breeze of 6 to 9 knots allowed the Race Committee to make full use of the day, completing all scheduled races. The 41 teams representing nations from across Europe enjoyed a technically demanding but rewarding opening day, with three races successfully completed in each fleet.

Favorable weather and the high level of the young sailors combined to deliver a great first day of racing, immediately highlighting several standout performances.

Day 1 Provisional Results:

Nacra 17 (7 teams)

Leading the foiling mixed multihull fleet are Italy's Federico Figlia di Granara and Caterina Sedmak, followed by Spain's Daniel and Nora de la Casa. In third are Switzerland's Andrea Aschieri and Tine Rossel, closely chased by another Italian crew, Arto Hirsch and Sofia Borgia.

Today's schedule begins with the coach meeting at 09:00, followed by the first warning signal at 11:00 for the 49er and Nacra 17 fleets, and at 13:00 for the 49erFX. Weather permitting, three more races are planned for each class.

This regatta is a highlight of the Sferracavallo Sailing & Sea Festival, a series of major sailing events that continues later this month with the IQFoil European Championship and in December with the Sferracavallo International Optimist Race.

The festival is organized under the patronage of the Sports and Entertainment Office of the Municipality of Palermo, with Generali Italia - Agenzia Palermo Mare as main sponsor, and Radio Time and Visiva as media partners.
