First race of the season at Overy Staithe Sailing Club

by Jennie Clark 28 Mar 18:55 GMT 28 March 2024

Despite a dreadful forecast with the threat of Storm Nelson (particularly appropriately named bearing in mind the location of the club) and a 7.30am 6 minute gun, the first race of the season saw a good fleet enjoying some super conditions.

Race Officer Andy Turner set a course which saw the fleet starting and finishing off the quay.

Alex Scoles was first to cross the start line and led the race from start to finish. A number of gusts took their toll with the Laser fleet all capsizing at Worple. This was the first of 3 days racing for the club's Easter Trophy, with an 8am start for Friday and 8.30am for Saturday.

1st Alex Scoles, OK
2nd Bernard Clark, OK
3rd Rodney Tidd, OK
4th Colin Hargreaves, Laser
5th Luke Cornwall Jones, Laser
6th Alex Smith & Paul Beachell, Sharpie
7th Charlie Smith, Laser
8th David Shannon, Mirror
