Allen 29er GP4 at Hayling Island Sailing Club

by Dirk Rogers & Will McEwen 25 Mar 2024 07:05 GMT 16-17 March 2024

Last weekend saw fun racing with fierce competition and challenging conditions. Despite facing a combination of swells and minimal winds, sailors embraced the opportunity to test their skills and perseverance on the water.

Throughout the weekend, participants engaged in thrilling class racing, showcasing their prowess and determination. Each race presented its own set of obstacles, requiring sailors to adapt swiftly to the ever-changing conditions.

Amidst the trials of the weekend, there were moments of triumph. One such highlight was securing our first race win on the second day;0)!

Credit is due to the race officer for their exceptional management amidst the challenging conditions. Despite the complexities posed by the swells and light winds, the race officer managed a series that was both efficient and well-run. One particularly memorable incident was the general recall in race 5, where an impressive 15 boats were caught over the line.

As the weekend draws to a close, our focus now shifts to the upcoming Youth Nationals in a few weeks' time. The experience gained from racing alongside such a competitive fleet serves as valuable preparation for the challenges that lie ahead. We approach the Youth Nationals with excitement and determination, eager to showcase our skills on a national stage.

In conclusion, the sailing weekend was a great success, with good racing and great competition and valuable learning experiences.
