XV Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja - Day 2

by Prensa Sailing Comunicación 27 Jan 20:38 GMT 26-29 January 2023

The qualifying round closes, after two days, with four closed races out of six established in the program. The final series starts tomorrow and concludes on Sunday with six races on the program.

The qualifying round of the XV Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja closes after a second long day in which three races have been completed. This first phase of the Torrevieja international regatta concludes with four out of six races scheduled. The discard, after the third test today fourth in the overall computation, causes an important change in the overall results obtained by the sailors.

With a second day "long and very complicated due to the wind conditions, with a significant drop in intensity at noon, in the first two races reached 15 knots, and with a change of direction" as stated Luky Serrano, Chief Race Officer, the fleet has been able to close the program and form the Gold, Silver, Bronze and Pearl groups.

The final series is reached with the favorites in front of the Gold group. The Norwegian Martinius Melleby Hopstock and the Valencian Blanca Ferrando (RCN of Valencia) lead the provisional overall. The Norwegian has shown a great level today, in that complicated race course for all, but in the Hopstock has pointed out partial 1-2-1 in the Red group, yesterday in the Blue managed to finish third, a result that is removed so it remains with 4 points.

Blanca Ferrando, today among the yellows, has been good in the first two, in the third concluded in 13th place, in the previous two tests 6-3. The partial victory yesterday and the discard today leave the leader in the overall women's absolute with 10 points, the same as Joan Domingo (CN Cambrils), fourth overall, and Denmark's John Frederik Wolff, fifth.

In the U13, the Turkish Eren Kaan Erendemir is in first place with 33 points, while in the women's Blanca Ferrando (RCN Valencia) is in first place with 46 points.

As for the locals, RCN Torrevieja, and after these two qualifying days, in the absolute general we have David Palacios (SUB16) in 66th place and Izan Rogel (SUB13) in 69th position, both classified in the Gold Group along with Juan Francisco Chumilla and the female Valentina Belso.

In the social aspect, was held this evening the 'Welcome Party', a welcome party for all countries and teams participating in the XV Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja 2023.
