Round 8 of the Marine Modelling International sponsored TT series was held in glorious weather at Eastbourne, a new venue for the series. Seventeen entrants were made most welcome by race officer Keith Tyson and all the members of the club, a drinks trolley was even brought round to the sailing area, a most welcome feature.

On the water it was it was another case of deja-vu, yes the two Johns, Arundell and Tushingham, laying claim to the top two spots, both winning their respective seeding races and continuing to scrap it out all day long. After a strong start by John T, John A reeled off a long string of wins, only halted briefly by John T taking race 6.

Close behind them Gosport regulars David Edwards and Chris Treagust had a day long battle for the last podium slot, resulting in a best ever TT finish for David in third. John Cleave was a close fifth overall and Adrian Tomlinson put in a good, consistant series to finish sixth. Arthur Jackman then headed up a tight group of four home boats.

Conditions could hardly have been better, the ideal B rig breeze blew straight down the lake but had enough swing in it to keep things interesting, mind you, it was hard to concentrate on the racing during the afternoon with the Eastbourne air display going on over your head, what do you watch, your boat, the Battle of Britain flypast or a Hercules doing airobatics. Great show though and a cracking days sailing, our thanks to Eastbourne for a well run, friendly event.

Big waves and gusty winds up to 35 knots As forecast, we would see winds from the SSW and starting at 15 knots. The direction SSW and with the gusts it felt more like 18-20kts. No question on rig size - the smallest D rig. Posted on 24 Feb

More light and shifty winds at Barton's Point Coastal Park For today's racing the wind was very much in the lower numbers. The forecast was for 5 knots and direction SE. With a race within a race for the Johnson family The wind was blowing from the clubhouse direction for the ten RC Laser entries. It looked to be a stock 'B' rig all-dayer, but with the light patch at the entry point, a bit of extra sail cloth helps you get through the lulls. Posted on 6 Oct 2024
