Two new successful launches have helped boost sailing in North Wales, for women, girls and people with a disability.

CH Pwllheli SC launched their Only Girls Afloat programme with a successful open evening.

"The sun was shining, the sea blue and the women had a fantastic evening with the female club volunteers out on the water," explained RYA Cymru Wales North Wales development officer Rosy Hearn.

"Vice Commodore Jane Butterworth is hoping that this will be the first of many events aimed at getting the local women out on the water.

"All Afloat is now up and running in three North Wales clubs, Holyhead SC, Llandudno SC and CH Bala SC, as well as continuing Colwyn Bay Watersports. Over 100 children have been getting out on the water and enjoying the great weather we have been having."

More that 60 participants and volunteers took part in a disability sailing session as Sailability continues to go from strength to strength at the Conway Centre.

"They have had some wonderful evenings sailing and motoring on the beautiful Menai Strait," added Hearn.

"Volunteers are always welcome to help, whether that be sailing, driving and RIB or cooking sausages on the BBQ.

"The youth sailing circuit has been well attended and it has been great to go to new venues and others we haven't been to for a long time. Just over 75 children have taken part so far this summer.

"Some clubs have benefited from Sport Wales community chest grants this summer, these have helped buy new kit including essentials like wetsuits and buoyancy aids for training youngsters and new members.

"Many of our North clubs have been busy hosting open and national events this summer. These could not be run without the support of our great club volunteers showing the various classes what a great place Wales is to sail."
