Sarah McGovern is set to become the RYA Cymru Wales Performance Manager from April leading the performance and pathway programmes for boating in Wales, as the current Performance Manager Paul Simes is retiring.

For many Sarah is a very familiar face having started as a Welsh Squad Sailor and progressing through the Coaching Pathway to now be recognised as a highly respected coach nationally in Wales and internationally.

On her appointment Sarah said: "I've been involved with Welsh performance sailing for some time and am really excited about now being able to take on the role of Performance Manager. I am passionate about finding, developing and nurturing sailors, alongside the passion I have for Wales to succeed at the highest level. I look forward to joining the RYA Cymru Wales team in April".

Gerwyn Owen CEO of RYA Cymru Wales said: "We are delighted to welcome Sarah to the team as our new Performance Manager, although she is a familiar face to many and will transition smoothly to the role. She brings with her a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience to the role that will see our talented sailors and workforce benefit from. I must thank Paul on his work over the last few years which is shown by the success our pathway sailors are gaining. I wish him luck in his retirement, but I'm sure he'll continue to be a critical friend to our sport in the future."
