A small fleet of seven Nordic Folboats came to the start line for race 11 on Saturday 4th August. In part this was due to the start of Lendy Cowes Week, which takes away some crews to the central Solent!
The fleet started from the Platform towards the west in a fickle northerly wind with most boats trying to fly spinnakers. Paloma, who was over the line and started last, elected not to fly their spinnaker, which initially paid. The first leg saw a lot of changes in position in a very changeable breeze.
Padfoot, the eventual winner, rounded the first mark in first place, closely followed by lady Linda. With a good lead they then sailed into a downwind hole, which allowed the rest of the fleet to catch up.
There followed a reach into Pyewell which switched into a challenging close haul to round the mark with the wind dying again. Lady Linda then sailed the original course having missed the change of course at the start of the race. This set her back to last place.
The last leg of the shortened course then saw a steadier sea breeze arrive, the best of the day, to allow a good sail to the finish line.
At the Platform finish it was Padfoot from Bonnie and Tak, with Paloma in fourth place.
