British Moth Open at Medley Sailing Club

The Bossom’s Cup event at Medley Sailing Club attracted a strong fleet of 23 boats to the River Thames for the last British Moth open meeting of the season. With the overall Somerville Trophy already decided, the fleet still represented ten different clubs.

Light and patchy winds and a four race program caused PRO Ian Howlett some major headaches, but all races were sailed to a finish, something that few other classes would have achieved in the conditions.

Colin Hall (Hunts SC) broke several years of home club domination, with a remarkably consistent display in the difficult conditions, topped by a stunning victory in the last race.

Despite two first places, the evergreen Tim Davison from the home club had to settle for second place overall and Tina Hardyment sailed a consistent series for third overall and first lady in the first of the new FRP hulled boats. Tony Thresher eased his six foot plus frame into his new boat to share fourth with Ian Cambell who guested in Howlett’s boat.

As always the on-shore team did a remarkable job both with race management and catering, thanks to you all.
