A dismal weekend forecast and early starts limited numbers for the first Regatta of 2016, the Piers January Jacket.

On Saturday the forecast SWesterly 5 to 7 increasing to Gale 8 did not materialise until later in the day so it was decided to give the 6 starters 4 races in 18 to 22 knots in case racing on Sunday had to be called off.

Mark Downer won three of the four races convincingly and only missed the second race to repair his boat after he received a large hole in the side while helping Robin Ebsworth after the first race. Fortunately the temporary patch did not take him long and did nothing to slow him down for the next two races.

On Sunday, the forecast of 6 to Gale 8 turned out to be a gentle 4 to 12 knots from the SSWest. Five boats took to the water with Bill Daniels, who had not raced on Saturday, winning both races in the light winds. Mark was second in both which ensured a full house overall for the Downer family with George coming second just ahead of his mother Jo.

The next Regatta is the Individual Match Racing on 23rd & 24th January.
