New twist to HISC Get Racing Club in 2015

by Sarah Johnson 19 Mar 2015 14:12 GMT 19 March 2015

If you're looking for something new to try in 2015 and are keen to get out on the water, learn new skills and take part in informal racing with a fun group of like-minded adults then join us at 7.00pm on Saturday 4th April for the HISC Get Racing Club start of season party. Find out what it's all about and hear about GRC's new plans for 2015.

The hugely successful initiative, launched in 2014 by RYA sailing coach Melvyn Cooper, enabled over 200 HISC sailors across 11 events to get on the water, learn key racing techniques, improve their confidence and pick up valuable racing skills from the volunteer racing mentors. You don't need to own a boat, the club can provide its fleet of RS Ventures for free, or you can bring your own boat and team up with other club members in a relaxed and informal learning environment. It's all free so why not try something new and join us in 2015.

New for 2015 will be the link to the HISC class racing fleets. Get Racing Club events in 2015 will be run by a different HISC class racing team so they can explain to participants about their class and arrange test sails and crewing opportunities. Even more reason to attend, get involved, meet new people and transition into other areas of the HISC club racing programme. To find out more come to the Get Racing Club start of season party at 7.00pm in the Over 18's Bar on Saturday 4th April 2015 to meet with GRC participants, talk to the club racing mentors and learn about this exciting club within a club.

HISC Member Martin Down commented, "The HISC Get Racing Club is a great initiative. I really enjoyed the race events I have attended and much appreciated the mentoring feedback. I am keen to participate in even more events this year."

Rear Commodore Racing, Andy Partington added, "I'm really excited about the new angle to the Get Racing Club for 2015 with each session being run by a different class racing team, so they will not only help you to improve your racing, but they can also tell you about their class and arrange test sails and crewing opportunities."

The on-water race events, which attract around 20 sailors and 10-12 boats, kick off on Saturday 11th April 2015 with the beach briefing at 2.15pm and racing starting at 3.00pm.
