Sixteen boats took to the water on Sunday for Glossop Sailing Club's annual open event, the 'Dragon Pursuit' which consists of two, two hour pursuit races.

Competitors were greeted by dry, relatively warm conditions with a blustery E / ENE wind, funnelling down the Woodhead Valley with gusts in excess of 20 knots. Experienced OOD, John Mather, ably assisted by AOD Roger Tolman set a course which made full use of the Torside Reservoir, presenting competitors with a daunting mile long beat between leeward and windward marks. The reward for the gut busting beat was a fast and often furious downwind leg featuring some lovely screaming reaches.

Race 1 saw Lewis Coppinger and Harry Coppinger from Toddbrook SC sail their GP-14 expertly, managing to maintain their lead from the start, despite the best efforts of Glossop's Tony Woods & Charlie Berry who charged through the field in their RS400 to finish second, just ahead of Peter Day and Dermott Dwyer in their 2000.

After a much needed break for lunch, Race 2 saw another exemplary performance from the Coppinger's in their GP-14, once again leading from the off, whilst in the battle for second and third places saw the 2000 of Peter Day and Dermot Dwyer managing to stay ahead of Tony Woods & Charlie Berry who sailed through to finish third.
