13 assemble for day 7 of the Rhu RC Laser Winter Series © Derek Braid

The happy throng of 13 assembled on a beautiful day with bright sunshine and a gusty offshore wind to contest with, 8 good races were sailed.

Visitor Derek Braid bravely and correctly chose the B rig for the first race and by weathering the gusts and powering through the lulls took an early lead and never looked back despite numerous duckings! By the second race the wind had dropped a smidgen and all sported B's , the wind then decided to shift from one side of the beat to tother, creating interesting conditions for all and a feature of the afternoon.

Ian Duncan soon got into his stride and calmly went on to take three first and 2nd to count for overall winner of the day on 5 points , young gun Andrew Homer pipped Derek Braid on countback both on 8 points , Andrew with a couple of race wins to count over Dereks 1 put him ahead.

Other performances worthy of note, Neil Rosie clocked up another win and was consistently at the front of the pack , Neil finished 4th overall, Gavin Jeffrey appeared for the first time of the season and put up some excellent results too.

With only one day remaining in the series , all is not over yet, the pack is closing up as folk drop their discards and the last day will be the clincher for many .

Series Results after Day 7: (46 races sailed)

1. ODC Mark Homer 40 points
2. Iain Duncan 55 Points
3. Andrew Homer 60 points (1st Junior)
4. Tony Abraham 65 points

With a race within a race for the Johnson family The wind was blowing from the clubhouse direction for the ten RC Laser entries. It looked to be a stock 'B' rig all-dayer, but with the light patch at the entry point, a bit of extra sail cloth helps you get through the lulls. Posted on 6 Oct 2024
