The 2012 Welsh Topper Championship, sponsored by Welsh chandlery and marine leisurewear company Firmhelm, will be back at Llandegfedd in South East Wales this summer.

The search for the top Topper sailors in Wales will be in its third year, but the first time it has been backed by Pwllheli company Firmhelm.

The event has grown to over 50 boats, with several coming from across the border, but his year the aim is to push the entry up to 100 boats on the picturesque 500 acre reservoir in Gwent for the weekend of May 12 and 13.

“The event may not be being held in Pwllheli, but the company is delighted to support Topper sailing throughout Wales and we are especially pleased to be involved helping this prestigious championship,” said Jane Butterworth, one of the proprietors of Firmhelm.

Welsh Sailing board and Llandegfedd member Bill Jackson said, “We are very excited about this year’s event and are grateful for the support of both our new event sponsor, Welsh Water and Welsh Sailing.

“The club would also like to thank Liberty Properties for their sponsorship over the first two years.”

Llandegfedd club commodore Jeremy Symons added,“ Llandegfedd offers exceptional dinghy sailing opportunities to welsh sailors and expect the event to continue to grow year on year.”
